Teslin River Canoe Adventure - 11 Days
The Teslin River offers an easy and enjoyable canoe trip that’s well suited for beginners. Along this remote wilderness river, you’ll experience beautiful campsites, excellent fishing opportunities, and—with a bit of luck—sightings of iconic northern wildlife such as moose, caribou, black and grizzly bears, lynx, wolves, and even wolverines.
On the first day, your guide will introduce you to basic canoeing techniques to ensure a safe and pleasant journey. You will also learn useful tips and tricks for staying comfortable at camp during the nights.
A river trip on the Teslin River follows one of the historic routes used by prospectors during the Gold Rush of 1898, on their way to the Klondike goldfields near Dawson City. Throughout this journey, we travel through the Traditional Territories of the Teslin Tlingit Council, Ta’an Kwäch’än Council, Little Salmon/Carmacks First Nation, and Kwanlin Dün First Nation, who continue to use the river for travel, fishing, and hunting.
Our adventure begins at Johnson’s Crossing, where we set out to explore the waterways of the Teslin River until we reach the historic, now-abandoned settlement of Hootalinqua. Here, the Teslin River meets the Yukon River. From this point, we continue for another three days on the Yukon River until we reach our final destination, the Village of Carmacks.
